About

Made by a golfer, for every golfer.

Tee18 started on a round of golf with my dad. This is how it went, and where it's going.

How it started

I don't use a rangefinder. I always used my dad's. Then one day he started using a golf app on his phone, and you could use the GPS on it. I thought that was pretty cool, so I paid attention to it.

I asked him, can you track your shots and stuff on it? Because that would be pretty cool. He said yeah, but you have to pay for it. He'd been on the fence about buying it, but he said he didn't really need it.

At the time I was building websites and apps for people. So I took it as a challenge. Let me see if I can make the same thing. I did my research and started building.

And somewhere in there I realized nobody should be paying for this. There are other ways for it to get paid for without forcing money out of golfers.

No one should be paying for this.

Every tool in Tee18 is free to use. We found other ways to keep it free.

Why it's free

Every golfer should have this.

Kids should have it, because if they can track their game young, they start getting better young. People my age too. I love it. Now that I track my shots, I don't even think about counting anymore when I play. Something as simple as that made a big change to my golf game.

What it turned into

There are so many possibilities.

It started as GPS and tracking my shots. Here's what it does now.

Playing with friends

A friendly little game.

I have friends who live across the city. We plan a game in the app and message each other about it, and it asks who's booking the tee time. When we both get there, we shake hands and start the match.

We both see each other's scorecards. We each have our own GPS, but we can see each other on the map. If your friend's in another cart or across the fairway, you still see them, and it feels like you're playing together. It makes it way more fun and connected.

Practice

Get better between rounds.

You can film your swing and the app tracks it. You can do practice drills that keep score and build a plan for the week.

The map also shows you places to go practice: simulators, driving ranges, and mini golf courses to work on your putting. It gives you all those spots to go to.

The map

A map that feels alive.

To make it feel more alive, you can zoom in on a course and see golfers driving around in their carts. Turn it on and when you're at a course, it shows you in your cart too. People can find you, add your account and play a match with you.

You pick who sees your cart: everyone, only your friends, or nobody. If they're your friends, they can see you. Showing it to everyone is for 18 and older. And it's off until you turn it on.

Tournaments

Set up a tournament with your friends, brackets and all.

Swing tracking

Film your swing with your phone and see your tempo, your positions and the lines, right on the phone.

Coaches, next

I want to bring coaches on. You'd share your stats and your swing with your coach, they'd coach you through the app, and you could schedule practices and matches with them.

Compete

No one to play with? Compete.

Some people don't have friends to play with, but they're really good at golf. Or you could be a beginner. It doesn't matter. So I made Compete mode.

You host a match on Tee18, people in your area can pick it, and you go play a friendly match together. It's a random person, but there are rules, and the app keeps it fair: you both check in at the course and you both confirm the score. Nobody cheats and it doesn't feel unfair.

It's a great way to meet more golfers around you and build a big, awesome golf community.

Texas first

Every course in Texas is on the map, 706 of them, checked one by one. Where a course is not fully mapped yet, the app says so and asks you to send a photo of the scorecard so we can fix it. More states are coming.

Your data is yours

We never show anyone your email, phone, address or birthday. Your shots are private unless you share a round yourself, your cart only shows if you turn it on, and you can delete your account or reset your stats any time in Settings.

Real results

A Compete result counts only when both players confirm it. Only the server keeps the boards, so nobody can edit a win in. Anything that looks off goes to a person, never an automatic ban.

13 and up

Anyone 13 or older can play. Every account confirms a real email, so there are no fake accounts on the boards.

We listen

Most of what is in Tee18 came from something a player said on the course, and a lot of it got fixed the same day. Tell us yours in Settings, then Help and support. A person answers.

Free to play

Players never pay to use Tee18. Not for the GPS, not for a match, not for a drill. We found other ways to keep it that way.
